Good times are continuing throughout October at AJ’s as the restaurant and entertainment site is to host an adult-centered Halloween event this weekend. On Saturday, Oct. 27, AJ’s Seafood & Oyster Bar will host its annual AJ’s Halloween Contest. The event has been held every year since about 1998. AJ’s is located at 116 Harbor Blvd. in Destin. The fun will begin at 10 p.m. upstairs at AJ’s Club Bimini. Admission is free, but those attending must come dressed in costume.

“A late night costume party is what it is,” said marketing director at AJ’s, Tracy McCraw.

Those 21 years of age and older are invited to join the party.

The main event of the night will be the costume contest. The contestants will be judged on having “the most original and innovative costume out there.”

The winner will receive $500 cash.

“We would expect between 30 to 40 contestants to participate,” said McCraw, with many more spectators.

When The Log asked what some of the best costumes in years past have been, McCraw specifically remembered one of someone dressed as a character from a movie set in Las Vegas.

“One that was great was the year before last; one of the contestants had the baby from Hangover, and I believe he got first place — he had the baby and a six pack of beer and a beard,” said McCraw.

McCraw also recalls a contestant dressing as the Keystone beer guy, Keith Stone, one year.

“We have a variety of things from sexy police officers to male strippers to wrestlers to just about everything you can imagine,” he said. “It is an adult costume party, so it’s bound to have some fun things in it.”

McCraw said the event is “just a normal AJ’s activity — fun, a good time and party.”

Halloween drink specials and October drink specials will be available as well.

“The creativity flows in Destin, that’s for sure,” McCraw said.
