Acting classes

DESTIN - The Emerald Coast Theatre Company offers acting classes for middle/high school students from 9:30-11 a.m. Saturdays, April 6-May 25, at the Destin United Methodist Life Center. FREEPORT – The Boys & Girls Clubs of the Emerald Coast will host its first Rodeo Expo April 6 at the Freeport Sports Complex at Hammock Bay. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are available online, at partner locations, and gate. Adult tickets $12, and children under 12 are $6.


FORT WALTON BEACH - Scout-O-Rama will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 6 at Uptown Station. Admission is free for games, crafts and demos. Armbands for inflatables are $8 or $25 for family. A Cross Over ceremony begins at 3 p.m. for those boys moving from Cub Scouts to Boy Scouts.

Poker tournament

DESTIN – A Texas Hold’em Poker Shoot Out to benefit the American Cancer Society and Destin Relay for Life will be held at 5:30 p.m. April 6 at Elks Lodge #1795 on Okaloosa Island. Suggested donation is $30. Email sadie220@yahoo.com or call 225-5679.


DESTIN – Join On the Coast magazine for Destin’s largest outdoor festival just for kids at noon April 6 and 7 at HarborWalk Village. Hands-on activities, face painting, arts and crafts and entertainment will fill both days. Kids can enjoy fish painting, kite making, sidewalk murals, jewelry making, demonstrations from local artisans, kids’ karaoke contest and more.

Celebration of Smiles

DESTIN - As part of the nationwide “Celebration of Smiles” campaign, the Destin-based wedding and portrait photographers at Pure7 Studios will host its second annual event at SpringFest from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 6-7 at HarborWalk Village. All proceeds raised from the weekend’s festivities will benefit Operation Smile, an international children’s charity that provides free surgeries to children born with a cleft lip or palate. Event offers a free 10-minute mini-portrait session along with the studio's gift of a 5x7 heirloom portrait for a minimum donation of $24 (original value of $200). Adults, teens and children 6 months and older should book in advance at 850-654-6523.

Anniversary Celebration

MIRAMAR BEACH - Bay Breeze Patio, 32 Forest Shore Drive, will host an anniversary event April 6 and 7 with grilling demonstrations and tastings, demos, special sale prices and more. Master grillers will grill their favorite recipes and go head to head in a cooking contest Saturday afternoon with attendees and guest judges voting for the favorites. Attendees will have a chance to win door prizes.

Wednesday Night Concert Series

SANDESTIN – The Village of Baytowne Wharf presents Boogie Fever and Big 80's, favorites from the 70s and 80s, from 6-8 p.m. April 10 in the Events Plaza. Call 267-8186.

AmericanaUnder the Stars

SANTA ROSA BEACH - Larry Mangum performs at 6 p.m. April 11 at Topsail Hill Preserve State Park for the concert series, Americana Under the Stars.

Cooking class 

MIRAMAR BEACH – Carrabba’s Italian Grill at Silver Sands Premium Outlets will share secrets from its kitchen in a cooking class from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 12 to benefit United Way of Okaloosa & Walton Counties.  Chef Paul will offer cooking demonstrations of some Italian dishes during an afternoon featuring food samples, a complimentary glass of wine, a raffle and recipes to take home. Jazz Month

DESTIN – Celebrate Jazz Appreciate Month at an indoor jazz concert at 3 p.m. April 12 at the Destin Library. Featured performers are the Northwest Florida State College Jazz Ensemble.

Star Gazing by the Shore

DESTIN – Henderson Beach State Park on U.S. 98 will host a star gazing program from 7-10 p.m. April 12. The park will close at sunset. All those attending should arrive prior to sunset.  Call park for sunset time.  Program included in the park admission fee. Call 837-7550.

Dance Facets 2013

NICEVILLE – The dance students at Northwest Florida State College present the annual dance concert, Dance Facets 2013, featuring original works and choreography, at 7:30 p.m. April 12 and 13 on the Mainstage of the college’s Mattie Kelly Arts Center. Dancers will perform original dance presentations featuring classical ballet, contemporary, and modern. Tickets are $15/adults and $10/youth, age 18 and younger.
