Destination Anime will be held from 10 a.m. to midnight Jan. 4 and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 5 at the Ramada Plaza Beach Resort on Okaloosa Island. Tickets cost $30 for a weekend pass, $25 for Saturday and $10 for Sunday.
Winter Guests Concert Series
All winter guests and locals are invited to HarborWalk Village to enjoy a free concert with Chris Alvarado from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 5 on the Destin harbor. Concerts are free and open to the public.

Americana Under The Stars

Snowbird Movie Matinee
The Destin Library will host a free weekly movie matinee for winter visitors beginning at 2 p.m. Jan. 8 and continuing on Wednesdays through Feb. 12. Winter Guest Fest
The Winter Guest Fest, presented by Wyndham Vacation Rentals, will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Jan. 10 at the Emerald Coast Convention Center Ballroom. Admission is $1. Once known as the Senior Snowbird Expo, the event is packed with coupons, giveaways and surprises for all.
Emerald Coast Wine School

The Destin Desserts chefs’ competition takes place at 7 p.m. Jan. 17 in the Links Ballroom, Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort in Miramar Beach. Local chefs compete for the title of champion by creating original desserts using Girl Scout cookies as the main ingredient. Doors open at 6 p.m. and the evening includes social hour, heavy hors d'oeuvres, dessert tasting and voting, awards, silent auction and entertainment by Shades of Blue. Wine Dinner on the Road
The Destin Charity Wine Auction foundation hits the road for a wine dinner, sponsored by IP Casino Resort Spa, at 7 p.m. Jan. 18 at award-winning Restaurant 32 at IP Casino in Biloxi, Miss. Independent Film Series
The Friends Guild of the Destin Library will sponsor the movie “Fruitvale Station,” an independent film biography/drama, at 4 p.m. Jan. 21. The program is free and open to the public. Films are unrated and directed toward mature audiences. Seating will be limited to 30 on a first-come, first-served basis.
The film series replaces Foreign Film Night, although occasionally foreign films will be shown, and its goal is to provide area residents with the opportunity to view films that are in limited release and/or unlikely to be shown in local theaters.
The Arts & Design Society’s 22nd Juried Southeast Regional and Heather Mitchell, the 2013 Best-in-Show winner, will be honored with a solo exhibition in the Holzhauer Gallery from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Jan. 21 through March 14 at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville.
Alice in Wonderland
Emerald Coast Theatre Company’s Alice in Wonderland is a theater course from 3:30-5 p.m. Tuesdays Jan. 21-April 22 at Destin Middle School. Mattie Kelly Arts Center
New national and touring events on the 2014 schedule for the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at the Niceville campus of Northwest Florida State College begin at 7:30 p.m. in the mainstage theater.
• Jan. 21: Direct from Branson, Mo., comedian Jim Stafford and entertainer Moe Bandy appear for a heartwarming evening of country music and homespun humor.
• Feb. 5: Direct from Branson, the Acrobats of China.
• Feb. 12: The world famous Glen Miller Orchestra appears in concert to benefit the Niceville High School Band program.
• Feb. 28: “Generations: A Collection of Black American Music,” a regionally produced production, will be held during Black History Month.
• March 21: The national tour of the phenomenal “Lady Smith Black Mambazo” to benefit public broadcasting affiliate WUWF.
National touring Broadway shows include “Bring it On: The Musical” on Jan. 23 and the Tony Award winning “Memphis: The Musical” on Feb. 22, as well as the Las Vegas concert event “The Rat Pack Is Back” on March 8 to benefit the Northwest Florida Symphony Orchestra.
An Emerald Coast Theatre Company theatre course for students in grades 2-4, Fractured Fairytales will be held from 3:30-5 p.m. Thursdays Jan. 23-May 1 at Destin Elementary School. Kids will stage favorite fairytales just told a little differently from their original concept. A public performance will be held at 6 p.m. May 3 at the school.
