Destin Live: Resident plugs city on Bravo
Destin resident Kim Farris got the chance of a lifetime last week on late night television — and she got a plug in for her hometown, as well.
She called in a question to the interactive talk-show, “Watch What Happens Live.” This Bravo program hosts celebrities in a forum style. The Jan. 16 episode featured guest stars Queen Latifah and Cuba Gooding Jr.

When Farris was asked where she was from, talk-show host, Andy Cohen immediately recognized Destin, and replied, “Hey Kim! The white sands of Destin, Florida! What is your question?” Farris’s question was for actor Cuba Gooding Jr.: “When you won the Oscar it brought me to tears; did you realize how iconic it would be nearly 20 years later?”
“I had no idea,” laughed Gooding Jr. in reply, “I was going through the emotion, I was just caught up in it… and when I saw my wife wipe her eye, I lost it.” Gooding’s 1997 Oscar was awarded for his supporting role in the film “Jerry Maguire,” in which he portrayed an NFL football star. The acceptance speech involved Gooding Jr. fervently pointing into the crowd, fist pumping, and jumping up and down with excitement and appreciation. Oscar producers played the music to get him to wrap up his speech, but he continued on.
Farris explained that she watches the Oscars religiously every year, and Cuba Gooding Jr’s speech was one to remember. Her brush with celebrity will be equally memorable.
“Well I can chalk it up to the things I’ve done in my life,” she told The Log. “My daughter lives and works with celebrities right outside of L.A., and she can be proud of her mom. It made my day, and lifted my spirits.”
