Beneath the Stars and Stripes

The Lighthouse Amphitheater at Shoreline Village in Destin will support America’s troops from 6-10 p.m. this Fourth of July at the first Beneath the Stars and Stripes — A Tribute to our Armed Forces and veterans presented by Pepsi with music by Sinfonia Gulf Coast. All proceeds will benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. Donations will be accepted throughout the night. Admission is free and open to all ages.   

Beginning at 4 p.m., members of a veterans’ motorcycle club will meet at Harley Davidson in Panama City Beach for a pre-show rally. All motorcycle riders are invited to attend and join the ride. The club will then ride to the Lighthouse Amphitheater, kicking off the evening’s festivities. At 8 p.m., Sinfonia will perform two sets of patriotic music with tributes to the troops throughout. Raffles will be drawn at 10 p.m.

With every donation of $20 or more to the Wounded Warrior Project, patrons will be entered to win special autographed memorabilia. Prizes include two footballs autographed by Nick Saban, University of Alabama head football coach. Concessions will also be available for purchase at the event. Free Blue Bell ice cream will also be available for event patrons.

Call to Artists: Destin Library

The Destin Library has issued a call to area artists inviting them to schedule an exhibit at the library. Art exhibits will be showcased in the library’s Calhoun Room, a 1,170 square foot unencumbered area frequented daily by more than 300 library members, visitors and residents.For further details, contact Tina Kaple at tkaple@cityofdestin.com or 850-837-8572.

Call for Entries: Pastel Society

The Pastel Society of North Florida has issued a call for entries, soft pastels only, by Aug. 15 for the National Juried Exhibition to be held Oct. 26-Dec. 6 at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville. More than $5,000 will be awarded.

Auditions for Seaside Nutcracker

Seaside will host auditions for the Third Annual Seaside Nutcracker from 5-6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the Seaside Assembly Hall, 168 Smolian Circle in Santa Rosa Beach. Dancers ages 8 to 18 from the Northwest Florida regions are eligible to participate in auditions.

The one-time performance of Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker in Seaside is scheduled for Nov. 22 and will feature Act II. The performance will be free and open to the public.
