Cold temps don't deter holiday cheer

Staff reports

Hundreds of people braved the cold weather to gather for the city of Destin’s 33rd annual Christmas Parade, which took place Saturday morning.

This year’s theme was “All I want for Christmas.” The floats started at Downtown Destin Shopping Center and traveled west down Harbor Boulevard to Stahlman Aveue.

Parade entries included a large inflatable teddy bear on the back of a truck pulling a trolley full children. Miss Destin 2017 Rachel McMullen followed in a convertible.

Three young dancers from the Rise Dance Center dressed as dolls rode on a float designed to look like a musical ballerina jewelry box. There also was young man dressed in camouflage pants pushing an massive beach ball down the street as the children looked on in awe.

Keeping with tradition, Santa Claus made his appearance atop a fire engine.
