The east lawn of the Destin Library was peppered with lawn chairs and picnic blankets for Tuesday’s Jazz on the Lawn concert featuring Cheryl Jones.

Between musical numbers, Jones connected with the audience, telling them about her parents and how she grew up playing music.

She switched seamlessly from the keyboard to the conga drums, playing everything from a jazzed up version of Mozart’s "Alla Turca" to Billie Holiday’s "Ain’t Nobody’s Business if I Do."

"It was very relaxing, I really enjoyed it," said Patricia Alderson. "My friend invited me and I was lucky enough to get a ride to come."

Jones engaged the audience with her rendition of Chuck Berry’s song "Route 66." People clapped to the beat as she played a back-and-forth rhyming game with crowd.

Soon-to-be-retired Library Director Jurate Burns and Cheryl Jones fan Connie Bierholm even got up to dance underneath the veranda.

"Cheryl Jones is absolutely fabulous. I dance three times a week for two-and-a-half to three hours," said Bierholm.

Burns said the concert was a great retirement celebration.

"It was the best retirement present I could get," said Burns. "There’s a week of parties coming up and this was the tops. It was wonderful."
