Free dance classes to get you moving
Free Hip Hop Class – Feb. 3, 10:30-11:30 a.m.
The Northwest Florida Ballet wants to help you and your kids get moving this year with a goal to offer as many free classes in 2018 as they can.
“All ages and all levels are welcome,” hip-hop instructor Katrina Green said. “It’s just kind-of a fun introduction to hip-hop with old-school hip-hop moves and some hip-hop moves from today. I always play positive, upbeat music. It’s fast-paced and good exercise.”
To kick off the new year hip-hop style, check out this free class Feb. 3 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the Northwest Florida Ballet studio annex at 310 Perry Ave. South East in downtown Fort Walton Beach. No sign-up is necessary, just show up in comfortable workout friendly clothing and get ready to move. Call 850-664-7787.
Free beginner’s Irish dance class – Mondays, 5 p.m.
The luck of the Irish could be with you, so why not try a free beginner’s class at The Irish Dance Studio in Fort Walton Beach?
“The first class is free and it’s an hour long,” said Irish dance instructor Cindy Brainerd. “There are about four basic skills for Irish dance before they learn the steps, so first-time dancers can expect to learn some basic technique at that class.”
Brainerd explained everyone age 5 and up is welcome to attend, and no previous dance experience is necessary.
“They don’t need any prior dance experience at all because it’s a whole different type of dancing all together,” she said. “Wear comfortable clothing – no denim – if they own a pair of jazz shoes, they can wear those and, if not, just regular tennis shoes.”
To sign up for a class, contact The Irish Dance Studio of Facebook or email them at email@example.com.
Free pick-your-style dance class – anytime.
If you’re not sure what kind of dance class you are interested in, look no further than Luna Ballroom in Destin.
“A lot of people come in and they don’t know what kind of dance they want to learn, so we show them the smooth dances of waltz, tango, fox trot, and the rhythm dances of rumba, cha-cha, swing and hustle, and then they can choose from those,” said Summer Hernandez, the supervisor at Luna Ballroom. “Any dance that comes to mind, we can show you here.”
Hernandez explained the free 30-minute lesson is meant to help instructors evaluate the dancers skill level as well as discover the type of dancing the student wishes to learn.
To set up your free class at Luna Ballroom, call 850-714-1669 and choose a time and date. All ages are welcome. Luna Ballroom is at 4495 Furling Lane Suite 220.
