Auditions: A Midsummer Night’s Dream

Emerald Coast Theatre Company will hold auditions for an adaptation of William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” by Gillette Elvgren, sponsored by Grand Boulevard in Miramar Beach. Auditions will be held from 12-1:30 p.m. April 11 at the Destin Community Center, 101 Stahlman Ave.

Actors should prepare a memorized one minute Shakespearian comedic monologue and be ready to play improvisation games.

This show will rehearse nights and weekends in May and run at 8 p.m. Thursdays from May 28 through July 30 at the Grand Park at Grand Boulevard in Miramar Beach.

Styled after Italy’s commedia dell’arte, four actors portray the lovers, the royals, the fairies, and the mechanicals. All four actors change characters as needed to engage the audience in this 45 minute adaptation of the classical play.

Actor roles are Buffo, an oaf-ish clown; Arle, a female Arlechino; Leandro, the lover clown, full of himself; and Celestina, the spoiled young leading lady.

Circus skills and tumbling are a plus but not required. All positions are paid.

Call to Artists: Destin Seafood Festival Poster Contest

The theme of the 37th Annual Destin Seafood Festival — Heritage of the Harbor – celebrates the festival’s location, right on the Destin harbor, among its docks, charter boats, and fishermen. Artists are invited to submit their handcrafted work showcasing this theme by 11 a.m. Monday, June 1. No computer-generated or enhanced artwork will be accepted.

The entries will be voted on by the Destin Seafood Festival Committee and the Destin Charter Boat Association and the winner will be announced on June 15.

The 37th Annual Destin Seafood Festival is going to set up along the length of Destin harbor from Harborwalk Village to Heron Harbor, including Harry T’s, Olin Marler’s, AJ’s, Galati’s, Dewey Destin’s, the City of Destin Royal Melvin Heritage Park, Brotula’s and East Pass Marina the weekend of Oct. 2-4. The location puts the festival right in the heart of the action along the harbor and the Destin Fishing Rodeo, which takes place the entire month of October. More than 70,000 locals and visitors attended the 2014 festival to enjoy live music, delicious seafood, and more.
