Musical Echoes Flute Festival to take a break in 2016

Special to The Log
The children's show with Ed Winddancer was held the first morning of Musical Echoes last year.

Musical Echoes Flute and Art Festival will not be held in 2016. This cultural event held at the Landing in Fort Walton Beach for 15 years has become a part of our community, and it is with regret that the Board makes this announcement.

This festival was created by two local shopkeepers, David Baxter and the late Doug Reed. These dedicated individuals worked very hard to coordinate the event since 2001. A small group of committee members, all volunteers also dedicated their time working to produce this event. Unfortunately, the commitment, time, effort, and finances required to build a festival of this size and caliber cannot currently be sustained. Thus, the decision to cancel the 2016 event have been made. We offer our deepest thanks and appreciation to our volunteers, supporters, vendors, and particularly the Fort Walton Chamber of Commerce and the City of Fort Walton Beach.

The board of directors will continue to meet periodically, to determine if and how to proceed with future events.

“We remain dedicated to educating and sharing the Native American culture and arts with the community,” said Baxter.

The Musical Echoes website and Facebook page will remain live and active for all to enjoy.
