Acclaimed British playwrights onstage At The REP

Escape To Create opens its 2016 performance season at The REP Theatre, Seaside, on Jan. 9 at 7:30 p.m. with a gripping dark comedy that has toured before sold-out audiences throughout the UK, the EU, Israel, and Down Under.
The Six-Sided Man, written by Actor/Playwright-in-Residence Gavin Robertson and performed with his Escape To Create fellow and collaborative partner Nicholas Collette, opens with an innocent “once upon a time ...” then quickly evolves into a gripping piece of physical theatre containing moments of heart-stopping tension, delicate comedy and delightful mime. Choice, free will and fate battle it out onstage through a disillusioned psychiatrist and his morally defenseless patient.
The distinctions between fantasy and reality blur as Collette and Robertson hold their audience transfixed in performances hailed internationally as “brilliant,” “riveting,” “masterful.” The play has toured internationally and was nominated for Best Show at the 2010 Edinburgh Fringe Festival and enjoyed an extended run at the 2015 Kansas City Fringe Festival. The play is recommended for an adult audience.
Collett and Robertson, both UK citizens, are each considered masters of the stage in their international roles as writer, director, producer, and actor. Collett has performed with the Royal Shakespeare Company and frequently appears in television roles for BBC. He has produced 14 tours of classic plays throughout the UK, Germany and Lebanon, gives workshops throughout the world and has taught at the Actors Centre London. Robertson’s theatrical career includes worldwide television roles and narration of BBC documentaries. He is former drama advisor to the Arts Council of England and is the current associate director of the Moscow English Theatre in Russia.
The playwrights are two of seven distinguished multi-disciplinary artists hosted by the town of Seaside during January. For more information and a schedule of their performances at The REP Theatre, visit http://lovetherep.com or http://www.escape2create.org/performance-1/.
