Mardis Gras on the Island
A New Orleans-style Mardi Gras parade begins at 1 p.m. Jan. 16 on Okaloosa Island. This parade is the first Mardi Gras parade on the Gulf Coast and is fun for the entire family. Local clubs and businesses sponsor floats and walkers — parade goers add their festive collections of beads, masks, music and more.

Greek Luncheon

Saints Markella & Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church will host a Greek Luncheon from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Jan. 14 at the church, Hwy. 98 and Bryn Mawr Boulevard. Cost is $9; dine or carry out. Call 244-0822. Pastries will be for sale at additional cost.

Snowbird Sunday Concert Series

The Market Shops at the entrance to Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort presents the free Snowbird Sunday Concert Series with the David Seering Trio from 1-3 p.m. Jan. 17 on the lawn. Bring chairs and blankets. In the event of rainy weather, the concert will be relocated to the covered patio outside of Bijoux at The Market Shops.

Winter Guest Concert Series

Shake off the chills of winter with free live music on HarborWalk Village’s main stage with Shoreline Village Church Band from 2-4 p.m. Jan. 17.

Rock for a Cure

Local bands fight cancer at The Block, 113 Eglin Parkway SE in Fort Walton Beach, at the eighth annual Rock for a Cure at 6 p.m. Jan. 17. Doors open at 6 p.m. with bands in all three rooms, including Ray Scott, Filmore Drive, The Helvetica Effect, Something to Yield, The Okaloosa Sound, Jay Werne, Barbed Wire Creek, and Victoria Lyn.

Student showcase

The Choctaw Bay Music Club will host a student showcase from 3-4 p.m. Jan. 17 at St. Simons Church, 28 Miracle Strip Parkway SW in Fort Walton Beach. Listen to talented children from the community perform on piano, voice and other instruments. Classical and contemporary music will be performed. This event is free and open to the general public. ADSO window display

During January, The Arts and Design Society presents the works of Helen Blair, artist and teacher whose talents cover a wide range of media, in its studio windows that face First Street in Fort Walton Beach.

Independent Film Series

The Friends Guild of the Destin Library will sponsor a movie, "Still Alive," a drama centering on Alzheimer's Disease, at 3 p.m. Jan. 19 at the Destin Library. The program is free and open to the public.
