Alfonso Academy premiers in South Walton

Special to The Sun

Alfonso Academy, South Walton’s newest dance academy, will premier their inaugural performance concert at the Linkside Exhibit Hall at Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort on May 26.

The community is invited to attend this free concert to see Alfonso Academy’s students of all ages perform group and solo dances in genres from ballet, contemporary, jazz, improvisation and more.

Alfonso Academy officially launched in January upon completion of their expansive new studio, located at 12598 US Highway 98 West. Evening classes in jazz, ballet, contemporary and improvisation are available for all levels of experience from ages two and up.

The academy also seeks to be a fine arts center, offering both an academic and dance education program for elite dancers that wish to excel into a performing arts career or professional dance company. Alfonso Academy offers a half-day program as well as a full-time private school enrollment program, which requires an audition and interview process.

Alfonso Academy has also established the New Light Dance Project, a preprofessional dance company. Auditions for both the day program and New Light Dance Project Dance Company are to be held July 23.

Founder and Director Mary Alfonso and her husband have been South Walton locals since 2012.

Alfonso Academy will host two summer programs, including a Summer Intensive Program for intermediate and advanced dancers from July 18-22, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Celebrity instructors will include Alexa Anderson, Matt Aylward and Melissa “MJ” Jackson, who have performed on “Dancing With The Stars,” “So You Think You Can Dance” and more.

Registration is $250 per student.

Little ones, ages 2-10, are invited to participate in the New Light Littles Fine Arts Camp July 11-15 for a week of crafts, dancing, singing, drama and more. The week will end with a mini star-studded performance to display the week’s activities. Registration is $175 per child. Space is limited for both programs.
