Bowlegs Pirate Festival, spinoff events on horizon

The 61st annual Billy Bowlegs Pirate Festival will take place June 3-6 with the theme “Bombs Away.”

On June 2, the Downtown Merchants will present their annual Little Scallywags Pirate Walk 4-6 pm. It’s a pirate-themed trick-or-treating.

The festival begins at the Landing at 3 p.m. June 3. There will be a “Defense of the City” demonstration by Reed’s Raiders at 6 p.m. Capt. Billy and his Krewe will dock around 7 p.m. for their reconnaissance mission and a skirmish.

Shenanigans will entertain the crowd until the fireworks at 9 p.m.

On June 4, the festival grounds will open at 10 a.m. The day will be filled with pirate revelry and music. The pirates are expected to attack about 4 p.m. The festival will close at 6 p.m.

The Billy Bowlegs Torchlight Parade will be June 6 at 7 p.m. on Eglin Parkway. Pre-register your float at FWBChamber.com.

Several spinoff events that surround the celebration include:

• June 1-2, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., the Bowlegs Booty Store will be open at the FWB Chamber, 34 Miracle Strip Pkwy. S.E.

• June 4, the 42nd Billy Bowlegs 5K at 9 p.m. (www.nwftc.com).
