Ballet under the stars at Grand Boulevard

The Northwest Florida Ballet presents its free performance, Ballet at Twilight, June 25.

The Northwest Florida Ballet will stage its annual free community performance, Ballet at Twilight, featuring a mixed repertoire of classic and modern works at 7:30 p.m. June 25 at Grand Boulevard in Sandestin.

This popular performance will feature NFB company dancers, as well as international guest artists, and will include excerpts from “Cinderella” choreographed by Todd Eric Allen and featuring the forest and wedding scenes; “Jazz Swing,” a piece that brings the joy of classical dancing to the rhythm of jazz with original choreography by Fernando Bujones and music by Louis Prima and Eddy Higgins; the contemporary ballet “Dimensions,” also choreographed by Allen with music by Igor Stravinsky, Amon Tobin and Peter Gabriel and featuring international guest artist Willie Moore Jr. and Robby Kretz of Smuin Ballet and NFB dancers Ella Brummett, Sabrina Lobner, Payton Beason, Victoria Garofalo, Jonathan Carter and Jeffrey Senior.

The production will also feature the pas de deux from Le Corsaire, a tour de force dance featuring NFB soloists Brooklyn Burbidge and Willie Moore Jr. with original choreography Marius Petipa and music by Ricardo Drigo; the pas de deux from the “Don Quixote” wedding scene with original choreography by Marius Petipa and music by Ludwig Minkus danced by Etienne Diaz and Mayara Pineiro.

The performance will include a variety of new works as well, including a new post modern work by Lindsey Kelley of Lindsey Kelley Dance from Asheville, North Carolina, and a new modern ballet choreographed by company dancer Sabrina Lobner featuring live music and an original score composed by David Ott. Kelley will also choreograph a special piece that will include students attending NFB’s summer workshop. Various other solo works will be performed by a host of additional contemporary choreographers.
