The Friends Guild of the Destin Library will sponsor a movie, "The Straight Story," at 3 p.m. Oct. 18 at the Destin Library. The drama-biography chronicles a trip made by 73-year-old Alvin Straight from Laurens, Iowa, to Mt. Zion, Wisconsin, in 1994 while riding a lawn mower. The program is free and open to the public. Directed toward a mature audience.

Wednesday Night Concert Series

Bring your chairs and blankets and enjoy a free concert under the stars with Geoff McBride from 7-9 p.m. Oct. 12 in the Events Plaza in Baytowne Wharf.

Guest artist

A guest artist piano recital by Yejin Lee of Korea will be held at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15 in the Tyler Recital Hall at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center at NWFSC in Niceville. Lee has competed for and claimed top awards in numerous prestigious national and international competitions, and she is currently pursing a doctorate in piano at the Peabody Institute. ADSO window display

During October, The Arts and Design Society presents the works of award-winning artist Mike Lewis in the studio windows at The Art Center Gallery, 17 First Street SE in Fort Walton Beach.

Fish the Days, Rock the Nights

After fishing at the rodeo, enjoy free live music with The Bayou Saints at HarborWalk Village at 7 p.m. Oct. 15. A fireworks celebration over the harbor at 9 p.m. plus a fire spinning show by Just Add Water ends the night.

Community Fall Festival

The city of Destin will host its 16th annual Fall Festival at the Destin Community Center from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 17. The festivities include carnival booths with games and activities, a community cakewalk, inflatable rides for the kids, a costume contest and the annual Jack-O-Lantern carving contest. There will be prizes for the scariest, funniest and most original Jack-O-Lantern, so come with a carved pumpkin and enter the contest. Carved pumpkins must be entered by 3 p.m. Oct. 17. Admission to the festival is one non-perishable food item per person, and bring cash to purchase food or game tickets. Call 654-5184.

Pastel Society Exhibition

The Pastel Society of North Florida will have their National Juried Exhibition through Nov. 18 at the Mattie Kelly Fine Art Galleries at NWFSC.

Life's a Beach Show exhibition

The Arts and Design Society's exhibition of the Life's a Beach Publications' annual cover competition featuring colorful paintings reflecting the beach environment will run from Oct. 25-Nov. 4 at 17 First Street in Fort Walton Beach.
