NWFSC, Fred Astaire team up for dance spectacular

Special to The Log

The renowned Northwest Florida State College dance program, students and faculty join forces with Fred Astaire Dance Studio to present two spectacular nights of dance. Proceeds from the event benefit the college's Frances Smith Herron Dance Studio Endowment and student scholarships.

The NWFSC dance program presents its annual two-day dance spectacular Dance Facets at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29, in the Mainstage Theater of the Mattie Kelly Fine and Performing Arts Center in Niceville. The special guest artists from Fred Astaire Dance Studio will be featured and will perform along with original choreographed works by NWF State dance students selected by audition and college dance faculty.

Tickets are available from the Box Office by phone or web at 850-729-6000 or www.MattieKellyArtsCenter.org for $15 adult and $10 for youth age 18 and younger. NWFSC students may request one free ticket per student ID. Tickets may also be purchased at the door both nights of the performance starting at 6 p.m. The theater doors open at 7 p.m. for open seating selection.

“Dance Facets will definitely surprise and fascinate all ages,” said dance program coordinator Joe Taylor. “All the works feature original choreography by students and faculty and can be quite provocative. We also have exuberant ballet and modern dance as well as hip-hop and more — so the concert is always very eclectic and entertaining.”
