Auditions scheduled for ballet training programs

Special to The Log

Auditions for the Northwest Florida Ballet (NFB) Trainee program will take place from 9-10:30 a.m. May 13. Auditions for the Pre-Professional and Company programs will be conducted 10:30 a.m. to noon.

NFB's Trainee program is designed for students in the sixth grade and up with at least three years of training. Current NFB Academie fifth graders are also invited to audition for the Trainee program. Company auditions are open to students entering the eighth grade and up with at least six years of formal training. Additionally, female dancers must have two years on pointe to audition for the NFB Company.

The NFB Pre-Professional Program is open to students in ninth to 12th grade who plan on pursuing a career in dance or intend on applying for a university-level dance program. Students interested in the Pre-Professional program should be advanced and have had at least six years of classical ballet training. Female dancers should have at least three years experience on pointe. Selection is based entirely upon the student's potential and desire to dance. Students accepted will receive eight fine art credits over four years towards their high school diploma.

NFB Trainee, Company and Pre-Professional auditions are by reservation and require an audition fee of $20. An informational meeting will take place at 5:15 p.m. May 10 at NFB to ask questions about the program and get more information before auditions.

To audition, please complete and either mail or drop off the registration form by the NFB office by May 10. Auditions and informational meetings will take place at the NFB Sybil Lebherz Center for Dance Education, 310 Perry Avenue SE in Fort Walton Beach.
