The Coasters bring doo-wop under the stars
Enjoy a blast from the past at 7 p.m. May 27 with the Cornell Gunter Coasters in a concert under the stars at the Northwest Florida State College amphitheater at the college's Mattie Kelly Arts Center in Niceville. Tickets are $15. Gates open at 6 p.m.
The Cornell Gunter Coasters will delight fans both young and old with 1950’s and 1960’s Coasters’ classics like “Poison Ivy,” “Yakety Yak,” "Love Potion Number Nine,” “Youngblood,” "Searchin',” "Sweet Georgia Brown,” "Young Blood,” "The Shadow Knows,” “Charlie Brown” and more.
The legendary Cornell Gunter Coasters, often called the “Clown Princes of Rock ’n’ Roll,” will perform their classic brand of American rhythm and blues, laced with their inimitable comic essence in a high energy show that is fun for the whole family. After a residency at the Rio’s Crown Theatre in Las Vegas, the group has been on tour appearing at Busch Gardens, Seminole Theatre, Station Casinos, Palace Theatre NYC, and performing arts centers in every state.
"Following the success of last summer's concert with The Drifters, we wanted to bring back another event with the iconic sounds of the 1950's and 1960's," said Jeanette Shires, Arts Center director. “Join in the sing-a-long … revel in the golden oldies … we’re having a Saturday night party with Cornell Gunter’s Coasters.”

Food vendors and beverage sales, including beer, will be available. Seating is available in fixed seats at the amphitheater or guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets to enjoy the concert from the events lawn. Coolers are permitted. The 2,500 capacity amphitheater is directly behind the center’s main parking lot, adjacent to the Art and Music Wings, at 100 College Boulevard in Niceville.
The Coasters have been the backbone of the recording industry since their inception in 1953 and are known for their unique mix of comedy, doo-wop and rhythm & blues. While the original Coasters members have all gone on to rock-n-roll heaven, over the years, a variety of artists have performed under The Coasters name and today's artists continue to keep the legacy burning hot. The Cornell Gunter Coasters concert is a high energy show full of familiar melodies, comedy and fun audience participation that the entire family can share.
