Finally you can give some “lip” and feel good about it. Emerald Coast Theatre Company (ECTC) will host the third annual Emerald Coast Lip Sync Battle at 8 p.m. Oct. 19 at its performance space, 560 Grand Boulevard (upstairs) in Grand Boulevard at Sandestin.
This highly-anticipated annual event promises an evening of music, dance and fun and offers the perfect opportunity for local stars to enjoy their “15 minutes of fame” on the stage in the spotlight performing live the songs they’ve been practicing in front of their bathroom mirrors for years.
“Read my lips, this is going to be awesome!” said ECTC producing artistic director Nathanael Fisher. “Everyone loves a moment on stage and ECTC is happy to provide the perfect opportunity. This has become one of our favorite signature events and is sure to bring out the star in all of us.”
Solo, duos, trio teams and ensembles, up to eight people, are invited to compete for the Lip Sync crown. All contestants will prepare two songs, round one everyone performs and in round two the top contestants perform their second song.
Friendly competitors are encouraged to challenge others via social media. Can’t sing? No problem. It’s just lip sync and all in fun. Those who are challenged and don’t care to accept can “buy” their way off the stage with a $100 donation to ECTC’s educational and theatrical programming fund.
This year’s celebrity judging panel includes Mary Jo and Chelsea with Q92; Steve Barber, editor of VIP Destin magazine; and Cory with 30A Radio. Lip Sync performance acts will be judged on originality and creativity, audience interaction and support, costume choice and appearance and full-out dedication to performance. Prizes will be awarded for Best Costume, Best Dance Moves, People’s Choice and Overall Lip Sync Battle Winner 2017.
The night will be complete with food and drink, and those performers who bring the largest fan following are sure to rack up coveted audience participation points.
The event is open to those 21 years old and older. The performer registration deadline is at noon on Oct. 17. Registration is $25 per person and the registration fee must be paid to ECTC before song choice can be submitted. Song choices are based on a first-come, first-served basis and should be emailed to ECTC technical director Cory Tucker at cory@emeraldcoasttheatre.org.
