The Northwest Florida Ballet (NFB) will stage a free, outdoor performance of excerpts from "Giselle" and "The Nutcracker" at 7 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Seaside Amphitheater.

The program begins with a lecture demonstration on the history of ballet and the method of training at NFB featuring both company dancers and school students. Excerpts from the holiday favorite "The Nutcracker," featuring the music of Pytor Ilyich Tchaikovsky with choreography by NFB Artistic Director Todd Eric Allen, will follow the demonstration.

The performance also includes "Sposa son Disprezzeta," featuring choreography by NFB Assistant Director Sharon L. Allen with music by Vivaldi. The evening concludes with excerpts from "Giselle," one of the oldest continually performed ballets dating back to Paris in 1841. Staged by NFB Ballet Mistress Dorothy Daniels Lister with choreography by Jean Coralli and Jules Perrot, "Giselle" tells the story of a peasant girl who dies of a broken heart after discovering Albrecht, her lover, is betrothed to another.

Tickets are on sale for NFB's main stage productions at the Mattie Kelly Arts Center. Visit the NFB website and Facebook page to purchase tickets or for additional information.
