Anglers hosting esports tournament

The Florida Panhandle is getting its first large-scale esports events Jan. 27.

Anglers Beachside Grill Presents: Baited offers an opportunity for gamers to showcase their skills in some of the most popular fighting games.

"Gamers miss the old arcade community, and this is our first step in bringing (that) back to the Florida Panhandle," said organizer Caleb Smith. "The more interest we see in it the more we can plan in the future."

Starting the day at 10 a.m., everyone will have a little time for warm-up matches before the first tournament of the day starts at 10:30. The rest of the day is riddled with tournaments that have cash prizes with bonus pots throughout the lineup. Games include "Super Smash Bros. for Wii U," "Super Smash Bros Melee," "Dragon Ball Fighter Z," "Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition," "Marvel VS Capcom Infinite" and "Tekken 7."

At 7 p.m. Jan. 26 at AJ's on Okaloosa Island, there will be a pre-party with games to play for all.

"This is a great way for everyone to be involved in their local gaming community," said gamer and organizer Tyler "Hack" McArthor.
