Destin Library announces Cultural Series

The Destin Library has announced an upcoming Cultural Series scheduled during the months of February through April. All programs are free and open to the public. Funding for the series has been provided by the Friends Guild of the Destin Library, the city of Destin and the Okaloosa County Public Library Cooperative.

Feb. 2: Hungrytown Folk Duo at 2 p.m.

After more than a decade of world-wide touring and three album releases, Rebecca Hall and Ken Anderson, otherwise known as the folk duo Hungrytown, have earned a reputation for the quality and authenticity of their songwriting.

Feb. 13: Harpist Katie Ott at 2 p.m.

Harpist Katie Ott will provide an enchanting afternoon of discussion about the history of the harp and its evolution from the Egyptian lyre into the modern instrument. Ott’s program will include demonstrations of special techniques and a mini recital of French and contemporary music.

March 21: Classical Guitarist Peter Fletcher at 2 p.m.

Peter Fletcher is a classical guitarist based in Detroit and New York City. He performs more than 100 concerts a year, and his recordings on the Centaur Records and Towerhill Recordings labels have been critically acclaimed. Fletcher’s repertoire runs the gamut from the Renaissance Period through the 20th Century.

April 17: Jazz Artist Cheryl Jones at noon

Dr. Cheryl Jones is Destin's "Music Diva.” Her many talents include musician, pianist, vocalist, entertainer, composer, songwriter, music director and much more. She has led her award winning music group, Jones and Company, for more than 20 years. This program is an open air “Jazz on the Lawn” concert in conjunction with National Library Week and Jazz Appreciation month. Bring your lunch and enjoy the concert.
