Special to The Log
Luana Dacunha a sixth grade student at Destin Middle School, is originally from Brazil, this is her first time “voting” in America.

Destin students participated in Kids-Vote Okaloosa in the most recent election. Students at Destin Middle School did their part on Monday, Nov. 5 and Tuesday, Nov. 6 to determine the next leaders of our country and community. More than 600 students, from fifth to eighth grade, filed into the media center to vote electronically for president, vice-president, senators, congress and commissioners on a voting website created just for kids. They studied about the election process with their Social Studies teaches and were ready to cast their ballots in hopes that their candidates would be elected. Mitt Romney won with 316 votes compared to President Barack Obama who earned 140 votes.
