Sandestin Wine Festival named ‘Best Annual Event’ in Destin area

Sandestin Golf and Beach Resort Wine Festival has been named the “Best Annual Event” in the area by Destin Magazine. Now in its 27th year, the Sandestin Wine Festival is the most established and continuously running wine festival on the Emerald Coast.

“The Sandestin Wine Festival is one of the most treasured traditions in the area and we are thrilled to receive this recognition,” said Lanier Motes, special events manager for the Village of Baytowne Wharf. “Each year we strive to bring attendees exclusive experiences and this year’s festival will be the best to date.”

The 2013 festival, April 18–21, will feature a wide range of experiences from participating in auctions for rare and distinctive wines to unique culinary demonstrations.

Connie Yarbro receives award from Samford

Ms. Connie Yarbro of Destin received a Living Legacy award from Samford University's Ida V. Moffett School of Nursing during its 90th anniversary gala on Oct.13.

Yarbro was among 50 honorees selected "for the impact they have had on the mental, physical and spiritual well-being of others," said nursing Dean Dr. Nena F. Sanders, adding that they have perpetuated a legacy of academic excellence, caring, compassion and service around the world in order to make a significant impact on humanity. That legacy stems from the lasting influence of the nursing school's namesake, the late Ida V. Moffett.

The 50 award recipients all hold degrees from the School of Nursing or its forerunner, Birmingham Baptist Hospital. They represent a variety of specialties within the nursing profession, entrepreneurship and missions.

More than 425 guests attended the anniversary gala at The Club in Birmingham. Each Living Legacy honoree received an inscribed globe signifying the worldwide impact of Moffett Nurses.
