Information session for Collegiate High School

Special to The Log

Information sessions for 2013-14 admission to the Collegiate High School at Northwest Florida State College will be held at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 3 and 13 on the NWFSC Niceville campus on the main floor, room 132, of the Student Services Center. An additional information session will be held at 5:30 p.m. Dec. 11 at the Crestview Public Library.

The sessions each include an overview of the Collegiate High School program, explanation about the application process and testimonials from current students, as well as the opportunity to meet school personnel and ask questions. The priority application period to return completed admissions packets is the month of February; however, interested students are strongly encouraged to attend an information session and to begin the steps in the application process now. Admissions packets are available on the school's website at www.nwfcollegiatehigh.org, from the school, or at all seven NWF State College locations.

The public charter school provides the opportunity for 10th, 11th and 12th grade students to simultaneously pursue both a standard high school diploma and a transferable college degree or transferable college credits. Located on the Niceville campus of NWF State College, the Collegiate High School is free of charge including free college-credit classes, textbooks, transportation, use of a personal laptop computer and access to personal tutoring.

The Collegiate High School was the top scoring "A" high school in the state of Florida in 2012 for the third time in the school's 11-year history as graded by the Florida Department of Education. Each year, the school consistently scores in the top one-half of one percent in the Florida Accountability System, previously earning recognition as the top scoring high school in the state in 2009-10 and in 2002-03. In 2006 the school was also recognized as a national Blue Ribbon School.
