Medical supplies needed for Mission trip

Children received Barbie dolls and trucks from the people of Destin and around the country at their Christmas party in the Philippines.

With Christmas barely over, Mission Love Seeds is undertaking its next big project in the Philippines. Barbi Carroll-Hawbaker and her husband, John, founders of MLS, and others from Destin will be off to the Philippines in February on a mission trip.

While there, Mission Love Seeds will hold a free medical and dental clinic for all of its five sponsored villages. A team of 18 to 20 doctors and interns from Far Eastern Medical University in Manila will volunteer their time and services for the entire day. Children and their families of the mission villages will come together for this much needed and otherwise inaccessible service.

“We desperately need to collect over-the-counter medicines, bandages and other items to ship by Jan. 10 so that the supplies arrive before the mission team,” said Barbi. “Please consider donating from the following items.”

• Children's chewable vitamins • Adult vitamins • Children's cough and flu medicines — any brand • Children’s Liquid Advil (w/dropper) • Children’s Chewable Tylenol (160 mg) • Children’s Pepto Bismol — Chewable Tablets • Children’s Toothbrushes • Adult Toothbrushes • Dental floss • Toothpaste • Band-Aids/Bandages/Medical tape

Also needed are combs and head lice shampoo. Equivalent store brands will be accepted on all items.

They also need lollipops and balloons, a special treat that the children love and look forward to during mission trips.

Boxes are located in the Destin United Methodist church office, 200 Beach Drive, for medical supply drop-off. Dollar General stores in Destin, Sandestin and Santa Rosa Beach will also be drop-off locations.

Please drop off all medicines by Jan. 10.
