Destin Snowbirds: A busy schedule

The Snowbird season is in full swing, and already the last week of January is here. Christian and James provided the entertainment this past week, preparing the crowd for their upcoming sold out performance at the Country Hoedown, Saturday evening at the Seascape Conference Center. Next week Chuck Lawson will take the stage entertaining “Island Style”. Expect more great audience participation! Following the 11 a.m. meeting the Friendship Club will lunch at the new Shrimp Basket.
The February calendar is full with upcoming events. Outdoors coordinator Jack Boex is not only an avid fisherman, but has arranged for skeet shooting. The first session will take place Feb. 1 at Hurlburt Field. Feb. 5 will be the second TGIT Party at Seascape. Feb. 10 is Soundsations at the Northwest Florida State College, Mattie Kelly Fine Arts Auditorium, Niceville. Everyone is welcome to join the Destin Snowbird Club in their continuing support of the students of the performing Arts program at the college.
Mardi Gras is early this year and the party will start with the annual HarborWalk Parade Feb. 9. The Valentine's Harbor Cruise sets sail Monday, Feb.11. Feb. 12 from 8 a.m. to noon is the annual Snowbird Craft Show. All snowbird vendors should be signed up for their display space. Tables are $10 for a large and $5 for a small display. Members are encouraged to visit the show in the meeting rooms of the Community Center on that Tuesday morning. Liz Barrat will be at the registrations Jan. 28 and Feb. 4 from 1-3 p.m. at the Roost to collect crafters fees. Any questions please call Liz at 850-502-4967.
Please note that Monday, Feb. 4, will be the last registration of the season. Special thanks goes out to Evelyn and Ken Lemire for their roll in this year's process. Linda Zukonik plans to resume her duties as club registrar next year. Mid-month Valentine's Day, the ladies can enjoy the Fashions of Coldwater Creek at the Show and luncheon at Seascape Conference Center. The month finishes with two golf events. The Ladies Scramble Feb. 20 and the Cancer Charity play-day Feb. 27 will both be held at Bluewater Bay. Please see Penny Eddie and Mike Krueger for tickets at the meetings.
A tremendous amount of time and effort goes into the planning of activities, meetings and special events held each year for the members of the Destin Snowbird Club. Jan. 22, the members of the board of directors were introduced to the membership for the first time this season. These nine people are assisted by many other volunteers. All who assist in the operation of the club gain as they continue to develop new skills and make lifelong friends. The Club needs you to help with your time as we continue to grow and attract more winter visitor support here on the Emerald Coast. Please approach any member of the board if you can help.
