NWFSC announces ‘Open Enrollment’ for college classes
In a move to simplify its enrollment process, Northwest Florida State College is introducing an “all inclusive Open Enrollment” period starting with Summer Term that expands registration dates, allows both new and current students to enroll any date during the entire enrollment period, and opens web and in-person registration simultaneously for all students at all of the college’s seven area locations. The process allows new students to enroll about two weeks earlier than previously and expands web and in-person enrollment for classes offered at NWFSC’s military centers to anyone with base access.
The college also released its summer schedule of classes of more than 700 classes and is now offering academic advising on a walk-in and appointment basis at all seven college locations. The Summer schedule is available in a searchable format online at www.nwfsc.edu/schedule
The new Open Enrollment period for Summer Term will be April 8 to May 8 for NWFSC Session 1 and 2 courses, with open enrollment through June 20 for Session 3 courses. Session 1 classes will be held May 9 to Aug. 2, Session 2 Fast Track is May 9 to June 20 and Session 3 Fast Track is June 21 to Aug. 2.
“It’s just easier for everyone to know that as soon as we open enrollment anyone can enroll. We’re eliminating special categories and blocked dates in favor of the expanded open model,” said Dr. Sherry Aaker, NWFSC dean of students.
Aaker also stressed that academic advisors are available now to counsel prospective new students with a plan of study, assist with admissions and help plan a schedule.
“Basically, folks should do their advising and planning now so they can be ready to enroll the first day of Open Enrollment,” said Aaker, who encouraged new or current students to contact any NWFSC site to see an advisor. She also recommended that new students complete admissions forms online through the Admissions section of the college web site prior to seeing an academic advisor.
Aaker noted that area high school students who qualify for the state’s Dual Enrollment program, which allows high school students to earn college credit and high school credit simultaneously, should work with their high school guidance counselor or the NWFSC Dual Enrollment office at 850-729-5203 to plan a program of study. High school Dual Enrollment students may enroll starting April 22. The state provides a tuition waiver which allows qualified students to enroll free of charge.
