A garden for Destin

Pam Griffin

Amy Holt is looking for individuals and businesses interested in helping to start and maintain a local community garden. The American Legion on Main Street has given permission to use the lot behind its building for the fresh produce garden.

Community gardens are springing up across the country and provide fresh produce and plants as well as satisfying labor, neighborhood improvement, sense of community and connection to the environment

For those who love to garden, give back to the community, don’t have room for a garden or just want to share their knowledge of gardening, this is a perfect opportunity.

“People are required to furnish nothing, but we ask for support to make it happen,” Holt told The Log. “Who might know a bob cat operator, who might have dirt, who might have seeds. We don't know till we ask, and we have not because we haven't asked.”
