City of Bones is the first novel for author Cassandra Clare, born in Teheran, Iran, to American parents. After writing for various entertainment magazines and tabloids, Clare began writing City of Bones in 2004, inspired by the urban landscape of Manhattan, her favorite city. She turned to writing fantasy fiction full time in 2006.

Fans, young and old, of author Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series will have a chance to get together with other fans and discuss the books and upcoming movie when the Destin Library holds its first Mortal Instruments Party, City of Bones, at 5:30 p.m. Aug. 20 at the Destin Library, 150 Sibert Ave. The free event is open to all ages on a first come first served basis.

The party will be held the day before the release in theatres of the film, City of Bones, the first movie released in the series. There will be book-themed games, including group trivia and quotes, and refreshments from the fictional “Taki’s Diner.” Prizes will be awarded, and a raffle will also be held.

City of Bones is a young adult urban fantasy series set in New York City about the adventures of the demon-fighting Shadowhunters. It was originally published in the United States in hardcover on March 27, 2007, and later released in the UK on July 2, 2007. The novel has been released in more than 34 languages, including German, Italian, French and Spanish.
