Local Toastmaster wins club contest in 2013 Tall Tales Speech Contest

Special to The Log
Jeanie Zepponi

The Destin and the Gulf Breeze Toastmasters Clubs have joined Toastmaster clubs from around the world to participate in the 2013 Toastmasters Tall Tales and Table Topics Speech Contest.

All Toastmaster Speech Contests begin at the local club level and proceeds through the area, division, district, and final levels. Eighty-two district semifinalists compete during the four-day 2013 Toastmasters Convention to be held in August in Cincinnati, Ohio. Nine contenders will make it to the final round, where the winner is crowned the Toastmasters World Champion.

Jeanie Zepponi, a member of both the Destin Toastmasters and the Gulf Breeze Toastmasters clubs, won first place for both clubs and will represent Destin Toastmasters as its first-place winner in its Area Contest Aug. 31 at the Niceville City Hall.

Daniel Frankfurt, a member and past-president of Destin Toastmasters, secured first place in the club level Table Topics contest and will similarly move on to the Area Contest Aug. 31 at the Niceville City Hall.

Zepponi has lived in Destin for more than 22 years. She has spent the past 17 years working as a top real estate agent and was named the No. 1 Re/Max Commercial Real Estate Team in the world in 2005 after having sold $145 million in sales.  Zepponi said she attributes her success to her belief that “if you want to be better at what you do, you must first be better at who you are,” which is why she spends a lot of her time reading self-improvement books. She loves gardening and cooking while listening to classical music and is inspired by positive people doing small “random acts of kindness” for others.  She has made it a lifelong journey studying personal development and is now on a mission to impact the world in a positive way through her new business venture that will be released soon.

Frankfurt, a former criminal defense attorney in San Diego, Calif., moved to Destin in 2008 where he now owns and operates his own law firm, Frankfurt Law, P.L.  He and his wife, Allison, moved to Florida because of their shared passion for family.  They are the proud parents of Charlie (5), Luci (3), and Henry (1).  Frankfurt joined Toastmasters due to the recommendations of three judges who opined he would be a better trial attorney by participating in the organization. Joining the local club was a great developmental decision for Frankfurt as Toastmasters has been valuable in expanding his communication skills and providing him with a venue to develop his leadership skills.
