Destin Snowbirds: Christmas (music) at the Roost
The Emerald Coast Community Band entertained the Destin Snowbirds Tuesday at their weekly meeting at the Roost. Music was seasonal, spirited and involved the audience as they sang popular Christmas carols. The annual craft show was also a highlight of the meeting. Crafters presented their wares and a variety of jewelry, scarves, purses, and other items were obviously favorites as the snowbirds did a little holiday shopping at the tables.
Some snowbirds may “fly the coop” for the holidays, but most remain here in Destin. The Downhome Southern Christmas Dinner was held Wednesday and provided those attending with a feeling of a home cooked, family meal shared with friends around the table.
The Annual Destin Christmas Parade will be held on Saturday (weather permitting) beginning at 10 a.m. The snowbirds will have a float in the parade and volunteers will be walking alongside distributing necklaces to the children along the route.
The Holiday on the Harbor Lighted Boat Parade will be held on Sunday evening, Dec. 15. Tickets were sold at meetings and a full house is expected.
The next registration will be the big one from 1-3 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Roost. The large influx of snowbirds will occur by this time, so a very large crowd is expected. Other registrations will be held on Mondays, Jan. 13, 27 and Feb. 3.
Storage lockers will be open from 8-9 a.m. Dec. 14, 21 and Jan. 4; from 2:30-3 p.m. Jan. 6; and 8-9 a.m. Jan. 11, Feb. 22, March 1, 8, 15, and 22 for snowbirds coming into town.
The Destin Snowbirds will not meet until after the holidays, coming back together for the Jan. 7 meetings at 8:30 and 11 a.m. Snowbirds are urged to come early enough to get a parking space as the meetings will begin promptly at the times given. David Hall will be the entertainment at the meeting.
