Destin snowbirds begin migrating north

Destin snowbirds begin the migration process this week as some return to their northern homes. Brave ones will stay a week or two later, trying to catch a glimpse of the sun and grab a piece of the beach. For those leaving this week, we say “so long, we’ll see you later in the year and safe travels home.”
The Destin Snowbird Club nominated the slate of officers for the Executive Board for the 2015-16 season at the meeting on Tuesday. The new board officially takes over next week and the last meeting of the season will take place at 10 a.m. Tuesday at The Roost. President Nancy Hewitt passed the gavel to incoming President Tom Franklin from North Dakota as Nancy returned to Canada Tuesday. The Executive Board presented Nancy with a plaque for her work as president of the club this season. The Destin Snowbird Club and Executive Board would like to thank Nancy for her dedication, hard work and leadership this year.
Charitable donations are a focus for the Destin Snowbird Club. Tuesday, a check for a total of $8,000 was donated to Sylvia Bryan, a representative of the NWF State College, for its music programs at the college by Nancy Hewitt. The club has been a sponsor of the Soundsations Concert for many years and is enthusiastic about promoting its programs.
A check for $1,700 was also presented to Michelle Wright and Jean Grieve for the American Cancer Society by Mike Krueger. Funds were collected at the general membership meetings last Tuesday. Collectively this year, the Destin Snowbird Club has donated a total of $10,100 to charitable organizations which also included donations to Harvest House and the Waterfront Rescue Mission.

The success of the club depends on its membership – YOU! Have a great summer and we hope to see you next fall and winter.
