Destin Water Users was honored with the 2014 Florida Department of Environmental Protection Plant Operations Excellence Award for Drinking Water at the annual Florida Rural Water Association Focus On Change Seminar in Panama City Feb. 19.

The annual Plant Excellence Awards program is one of the ways the DEP recognizes public drinking water and domestic wastewater facilities that demonstrate excellence in operation, maintenance, compliance, innovative treatment, waste reduction, pollution prevention, conservation, recycling, and other special achievements. There are approximately 2,300 domestic wastewater facilities and 6,400 public drinking water facilities in Florida.

“We are excited and proud to be honored with this award again this year,” said DWU General Manager, Lockwood Wernet. “We take pride in what we do, and will work hard to uphold the level of service we provide our local community.”

This was the fourth consecutive year Destin Water Users was recognized with this award, and the 12th time overall.
