Winners announced in 28th Annual Math Bowl

Teams from 17 Northwest Florida high schools competed in the 28th annual Math Bowl at Northwest Florida State College on Friday, March 6, at the college’s Niceville campus.

After a day-long competition consisting of written exams and ciphering matches, an awards ceremony was held for the event’s team and individual winners.

Team winners

Class X – 1st place: Rocky Bayou Christian School; 2nd place: NWF State College Collegiate High School; 3rd place: Freeport High School.

Class Y – 1st place: Gulf Breeze High School; 2nd place: Maclay School (Tallahassee); 3rd place: Pensacola Catholic.

Class Z – 1st place: Chiles High School (Tallahassee); 2nd place: Rickards High School (Tallahassee); 3rd place: Lincoln High School (Tallahassee).

Individual winners

Class X – 1st: Ricky Gal of Collegiate High; 2nd: James Sung of Rocky Bayou; 3rd: Alex Barys of Collegiate High; 4th: Ryan Lechner of Freeport; 5th: Cameron Esses of Rocky Bayou.

Class Y – 1st: Andrew Carney of Gulf Breeze; 2nd: Camille Adkison of Gulf Breeze; 3rd: Sadhana Ponnaluri of Maclay; 4th: Ken Vincent of Gulf Breeze; 5th: Jessica Laenger of Gulf Breeze.

Class Z – 1st: Brian Ahn of Chiles; 2nd: Graham O’Donnell of Lincoln; 3rd and 4th (tie): Jamie Gao of Chiles and Jeewo Kang of Rickards; 5th: Jaewon Shim of Chiles.

In addition to trophies for individual and team winners, the highest scoring student in each category received a cash award of $50, and the overall highest among all categories received an additional $50. Ricky Gal of Collegiate High and Andrew Carney of Gulf Breeze each received $50, and Brian Ahn of Chiles received $100.
