Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast recently honored one of its nurses with the 2015 Nurse Excellence Award in recognition of the exceptional care she provides to patients.

Nina Jeffords, chief operating officer/chief nursing officer at SHHEC recognized Lorraine Gahagan, RN, of the hospital’s Med/Surg department with her award.

A fellow associate said, “Lorraine is an example to us all of how bedside nursing should be. She goes above and beyond to ensure that her patient’s needs are met. She is a wonderful resource for other nurses on the floor, and a true asset to our facility.”

Jeffords also recognized the following nominees for the hospital’s annual award — Katie Trzcinski, RN, Diagnostic Radiology; Jenny Stuckey, RN, Patient Education;  Tracy Perk, RN, Emergency Department; and Stephanie Masat, RN, House Supervisor.

“I am extremely proud of our nurses,” said Jeffords. “Their care and attention to our patients exemplifies the mission of Sacred Heart Hospital and I am thankful for the positive impact they bring to our ministry.”

Each year, fellow employees, physicians and patients submit recommendations of nurses for the Nurse Excellence Awards. Nurses are selected based on their commitment to criteria including leadership, community involvement and educational development.
