Pickleball, anyone? FWB to open 6 new courts
FORT WALTON BEACH — The city Recreation Department will open six new pickleball courts at Jet Drive Park with a ribbon-cutting ceremony set for 10 a.m. March 5.
Aging and underutilized tennis courts at the park recently were transformed into pickleball courts thanks to Community Development Block Grant funding of about $30,000. The basketball court at Jet Drive Park, 224 Holmes Blvd. N.W., also received a facelift.
“Pickleball has become wildly popular in the Fort Walton Beach area over the last few years and the demand for more courts spurred this project,” city Recreation and Cultural Services Director Jeff Peters said in a statement. “We have been inundated with questions of when the courts will be ready ever since the project was announced.
“We have some pickleball space at the Rec Center, but it just isn’t enough. These new courts are a great addition to our park system and will be heavily used.”
