Sacred Heart Hospital

The following classes will be held at Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast. To register, call 278-3600 or toll-free (877) 416-1600 unless noted.

• Baby Basics: To help prepare future parents for the basic handling of their newborn at 6 p.m. April 16 in the Family Birth Place education room. Cost is $10. Registration required.

• Super Siblings: Class to help children prepare for the upcoming arrival of their new baby brother or sister at 4 p.m. April 24 in the Family Birth Place. Registration required.

• Online childbirth class: Families will learn about the stages of labor, comfort techniques, common medical procedures, including epidurals and cesareans, and newborn and postpartum care. Engaging videos, personal birth stories, 3D animations, games, and activities make learning easy and fun. Rolling registration. Cost is $35.  

Hormones/weight seminar

Dr. Nitin Bawa, president and founder of Dr. Bawa and Associates, will present a seminar “How To Adjust Hormones and Lose Weight” at 5:30 p.m. April 17 in the Destin clinic, 155 Crystal Beach Drive. Dr. Bawa will discuss common misconceptions about hormones and how they affect weight gain; environmental influences on hormones; ways to adjust hormones to help with losing weight and optimizing health; and how lasers can be used to improve skin tone and texture. Call 424-7320 to reserve your spot. The first ten seats can be reserved at no charge but after that it will cost $10 per person. The $10 can be applied toward any service purchased at the clinic other than co-pays.

Camp for adult cancer patients

Camp Bluebird, a retreat experience for people coping with cancer, is scheduled for April 17-19 at Sacred Heart’s Miracle Camp on Beulah Road in Escambia County. The Miracle Camp complex is nestled in a 40-acre nature preserve. The camp includes a dormitory, dining hall, activities building, paved nature trails, a pond and an outdoor chapel.

Adults who have been diagnosed with cancer are encouraged to register now to participate, even if they are not seeing a Sacred Heart physician.

Evening with the Cardiac Experts

Join Sacred Heart Hospital on the Emerald Coast for ''An Evening with the Cardiac Experts” from 5-7 p.m. April 18 at Café Thirty-A in Seagrove Beach. The free event will feature a brief presentation on the expanded heart and vascular services now available at Sacred Heart and Q&A with a panel of cardiac experts. Complimentary heart-healthy hors d’oeuvres and libations will be served. RSVP at or 278-3030 by April 15.

Grief support group

Covenant Hospice will offer a six-week grief support group from 6-7:30 p.m. beginning May 8 at 220 Eglin Parkway, N.E. in Fort Walton Beach. Those who attend will have the opportunity to explore their grief in a safe and caring environment. The support group is free, but registration is required by May 2 at 729-1800 or email
