American Legion

Arbor Day

The City of Destin will hold its Annual Arbor Day event at 10 a.m. April 26 at the Destin Library, 150 Sibert Ave. The event will feature a guest speaker and a tree planting ceremony by the city’s Environmental/Tree Committee. The City will give away a Tulip Tree seedling to the first 50 people to arrive at the ceremony. The public is welcomed to bring their own seedlings to trade with other tree enthusiasts.

Healthy Kids Day

The YMCA of Florida’s Emerald Coast celebrates Healthy Kids Day at all four branches from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 27 with a free event featuring fun, active play and educational activities such as bounce houses, relay races, youth fitness demonstrations, and a live visit from Martha Speaks from PBS. World Tai Chi Day

The Destin Library will celebrate World Tai Chi Day with instructor Barbara Rezmer, a certified Tai Chi for Health instructor, at 10 a.m. April 27 outdoors on the library grounds, weather permitting. Participants are encouraged to arrive at 9:45 a.m. for warm up exercises. Call 837-8572.

Belk Charity Sale

Belk's semi-annual Charity Sale will be held from 6-10 a.m. April 27.  The in-store shopping event offers an opportunity for customers to support local charities while taking advantage of special discounts on purchases. Tickets are $5 and available from participating organizations, which retain 100 percent of sale. Tickets can also be purchased at Belk with all revenues divided equally among participating charities and schools.

Yard/bake sale, car wash

FamiliesFirst Network will hold its first yard/bake sale and car wash from 8 a.m. to noon April 27 at 340 Beal Parkway in Fort Walton Beach. Farmers/Flea Market

The City of Destin will host a Farmers and Flea Market and Yard Sale from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 27 in the Destin Community Center’s parking lot. Vendor spots are available for a fee of $20/Destin residents and $25/non-residents. Call 654-5184 for more information.

Donation of vehicles

Applications for Destin Youth Council

The City of Destin is now accepting applications for the Destin Youth Council. The deadline to apply is April 30. Applicants must live within the city limits of Destin and must currently be between the grades of 9-11. National Egg Month

May is National Egg Month and to celebrate, Another Broken Egg Cafés will offer guests the chance to win a $50 gift card by guessing the number of eggs used at your favorite neighborhood location during the month of May. Volunteer training

Covenant Hospice needs individuals and groups to join its award-winning volunteer team. A training workshop will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. May 7 at the Covenant Hospice branch office, 220 Eglin Parkway NE in Fort Walton Beach. The workshop is free and open to the public. Women's Wall of Honor ceremony

The Okaloosa County Commission on the Status of Women will host a ceremony and reception recognizing the 2013 honorees for the Wall of Honor at 10 a.m. May 7 in the auditorium at the University of West Florida, Emerald Coast Campus, in Fort Walton Beach.   The honorees' names are placed on a plaque in the library at the Emerald Coast campus of the UWF with a nearby book containing a biographical page for each woman. RSVP at 833-7587, ext. 205 or

Kids Night Out

Floral design

Youth ages 8-12 are invited to make a floral design for their mother from 10-11:30 a.m. May 11 at Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the Emerald Coast, 1295 N. Bayshore Drive in Valparaiso. Reservations required at Cost is $12/child.

Boating class

A Boating Safety class will be held from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. May 18 at the Fort Walton Yacht Club, 120 Ferry Road NE in Fort Walton Beach. Lincoln-Reagan fundraising dinner

The Okaloosa County Republican Executive Committee will hold its annual Lincoln-Reagan Fundraising Dinner at 6 p.m. June 8 in the Ambassador Room, Ramada Plaza Beach Resort, 1500 Miracle Strip Parkway in Fort Walton Beach.
