Audubon Society

Retired Federal Fishery Biologist Dave Clausen will present a program on the flora and fauna of Lord Howe Island, a U.N. World Heritage Site off the coast of eastern Australia, at the Choctawhatchee Audubon Society meeting at 6L30 p.m. April 7 in Room 130 of the new Student Services Building at NWFSC main campus in Niceville. Admission is free and open to the public.

Republican Women

The Republican Women of Okaloosa Federated will meet at 11:30 a.m. April 6 at the Wyndam Garden Hotel on Okaloosa Island. “Opportunities and Obligations Republicans have to WIN their RACES IN 2016” will be presented by Glo Smith, an independent contractor with the Douglass Leadership Institute, a national education and public policy non-profit organization. Attendees are encouraged to bring donations of bottled water for the USO as well as empty print cartridges, which are turned in for money for supplies at the USO. The Genealogy Society of Okaloosa County will meet at 10 a.m. April 9 at the Heritage Museum of Northwest Florida, 115 Westview Ave. in Valparaiso. The speaker will be Margaret Chatraw, library coordinator for Youth Services and Genealogy Services for the Santa Rosa County Library System. Pastel Society

The Pastel Society of North Florida will meet from 9 a.m. to noon May 6 in the Fellowship Hall of the Church of Christ, 232 Hollywood Blvd. in Fort Walton Beach. Carrie Raeburn will demonstrate how to use Kitty Wallis's Moist Pastels to make sticks of pastel in a value range as well as how to transform broken bits of pastel into colorful grays, custom colors and speckled pastels.
