Destin Garden Club prepares for plant sale

Special to The Log
Working at the Destin Library were (from left) Jean Hill, Marilyn Kennedy, Kaye Stender, Judy Johnson and Connie Wood. [SPECIAL TO THE LOG]

Destin Garden Club members work feverishly in the Destin Library grounds planting new plants, weeding and sprucing up the gardens in anticipation for their huge annual Destin Garden Club Sale. The sale is held every year and the community looks forward to the incredible buys that can be had.

The sale this year will be from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 29, at the Destin Library, 150 Sibert Ave

The Destin Garden Club is a non-profit organization so all the proceeds from the sale go to maintain the Destin Library grounds for the community to enjoy. The members work at least once a month on the third Tuesday of each month adding seasonal color, weeding and mulching. In addition the club has their monthly meetings the second Tuesday of each month at 9:15 a.m., and meetings are free and open to the public. Membership is available for $35 a year and gives members special access to field/garden trips, workshops, and luncheons, etc. The next meeting will be held at 9:15 a.m. May 9. Karen Kirk-Williams, Okaloosa Master Gardener, will give the program on Antique Roses.

The object of the club is to stimulate the love of gardening among members; to promote gardening through community projects; to aid in the protection of birds, trees, shrubs and flowers; to encourage city beautification and to share with members and others the fruit of our studies.
