THINGS TO DO FOR JULY 4th
Family Independence Day Celebration
The city of Destin will host a Family Independence Day Celebration & Bike parade for children 14 and under at 4:30 p.m. July 2 at Morgan's Sport Center. Bike parade at 5:30 p.m. with registration beginning at 4:45 p.m. The event is free to the public. Come show off your decorated bike, scooter, or wagon. Awards will be given for different categories in each age division. Spectators are welcome and refreshments will be available to all participants. For more information, call 654-5184.
Smoke on the Coast
The ninth annual Smoke on the Coast BBQ and Fireworks Festival begins at 5 p.m. July 3 at Destin Commons with family entertainment and live music. At 5:30 p.m. barbecue aficionados can enjoy $1 samples from 18 area restaurants and barbecue groups and vote for their favorite as People's Choice winners with over $85,000 in donations benefiting local charities. Stop by for family fun activities including an Independence Day fireworks extravaganza.
AJ's Stars & Stripes Celebration
AJ's on the Bayou hosts a free evening of celebration from 6-10 p.m. July 3 at 200 Eglin Parkway NE in Fort Walton Beach. Children will love the face painting, stilt walkers and bounce houses. Tasty plates of barbecue and ice cold beer will be available for purchase all evening. Local favorites, Black Eyed Blonde, will keep everyone dancing, and a display of fireworks over the bayou will begin at 9 p..m.
4th of July Celebration
Celebrate Independence Day on the Destin harbor with free live music by Eli Hannon and The Manly Hero from 7-9 p.m.and fireworks at 9 p.m. Firespinning closes the evening at 9:30 p.m.
July 4th Fireworks Celebration
In honor of Independence Day, the city of Destin and its sponsors are hosting the 33rd annual Independence Day Fireworks Show. The fireworks show can be seen over the East Pass and will begin at 9 p.m. July 4th. Tune in to Z96 (96.5 FM) for the simulcast music. In the event of inclement weather, the fireworks show will take place at 9 p.m. July 5.
The city of Destin encourages everyone to think “safety first” if you plan to set off your own fireworks. Firework laws shall be enforced and please keep in mind that anything that flies or explodes is illegal in Florida. Citizens can use sparklers, fountains, and smokers. If you plan to purchase legal fireworks do so from a state-certified fireworks distributor only. Place used fireworks in a bucket of water before you dispose of them, keep small children and animals away from the fireworks, and never relight those that don’t work.
4th of July Fort Walton Beach
The city of Fort Walton Beach will celebrate Independence Day at The Landing, 139 SE Brooks Street, from 4-10 p.m. July 4. The event is free to the public and includes kids' activities, live music and a fireworks show with a musical background at 8:45 p.m. Concessions will be available for purchase throughout the evening.
