NWFSC Film Club

The screening of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind (Michel Gondry, 2004) will be at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 12 in room (110) 328 in the art/music wing of the Mattie Kelly Arts Center.

After a painful breakup, Clementine (Kate Winslet) undergoes a procedure to erase memories of her former boyfriend Joel (Jim Carrey) from her mind. When Joel discovers that Clementine is going to extremes to forget their relationship, he undergoes the same procedure and slowly begins to forget the woman that he loved. Directed by former music video director Michel Gondry, the visually arresting film explores the intricacy of relationships and the pain of loss.

Plant Clinic

Okaloosa County Extension Horticultural Agent Larry Williams and a team of Master Gardener Volunteers will be at the monthly Plant Clinic from 9 a.m. to noon Sept. 13 at the County Extension Annex, 127 Hollywood Blvd. NW in Fort Walton Beach. This will be the final plant clinic of 2019. The clinic provides a place to bring samples of lawn, landscape and garden plants for diagnosis, including weeds and insects for identification.

SPARE Walk

Bridgeway Center will host a SPARE Walk from 9-11 a.m. Sept. 13. The walk will begin at the Bridgeway Center Jack Burkett Administrative Building, 205 Shell Ave. in Fort Walton Beach, and walk to the Fort Walton Beach City Hall building where Bonnie Barlow, Bridgeway CEO, and Karen Abrahams, SPARE founder, will say a few words at the front steps of the City Hall building. SPARE stands for Suicide Prevention Awareness, Response and Education. SPARE is a coalition of mental health providers, suicide survivors, and concerned citizens seeking to eliminate suicide in our community.

Choctawhatchee Audubon Society

Gardening in the Panhandle classes

The University of West Florida’s Center for Life Long Learning (CLL) Gardening in the Panhandle classes will begin Sept.16 and run seven weeks. These classes are offered by Okaloosa County Master Gardener volunteers as non-credit continuing education courses each spring and fall semester. Amvets fundraiser for kids

American Veterans Post 29 in Destin is planning the first Vets for Kids Christmas Fundraiser to raise money for the Destin Community Center's annual Christmas gift drive for local underprivileged families. The event, with many musicians and a silent auction, will be held Sept. 20 and 21 at 106 Benning Drive. All donations are welcome for the auction, including art, jewelry, clothes and gift certificates.

International Coastal Cleanup

The World of Beer team members will team up with the Coastal Guardians for International Coastal Cleanup Day. Meet at the Destin Bridge beach, aka Redneck Beach, Sept. 21. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. with work continuing until 10:30 a.m. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing. Gloves, bags, and buckets will be provided as well as water, sunscreen and first aid kit. Fall Plant Sale

Okaloosa County Master Gardener Volunteers will hold a Fall Plant Sale from 8-11 a.m. Sept. 21 at the Okaloosa County Extension Annex, 127 Hollywood Blvd. NW, in Fort Walton Beach. This is an indoor sale, rain or shine. Plants are $5 each or five for $20. Master Gardeners will be on hand to assist and answer questions. As a courtesy to our customers, no pre-sales.

Parents Technology Class

The Emerald Coast Children’s Advocacy Center (ECCAC), Walton County Sheriff’s and Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Offices are working together to teach a class, only for parents, about smart devices and how parents can better protect their kids. The class will be free and open to the public from 9:55-10:45 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 22, in the Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church of DeFuniak Springs, 88 Circle Drive.

Okaloosa County Republican Club

The Okaloosa County Republican Club will meet at 6 p.m. Sept. 26 at American Legion Post 235, 105 Hollywood Blvd. SW in Fort walton Beach. Karen A. FPRA

The Florida Public Relations Association (FPRA) will meet from 11:30 a.m.. to 1 p.m. Sept. 30 at Surf Hut in Destin.

FPRA State President-Elect Devon Chesnut, APR, CPRC. will present “Lights, Camera, App-tion” and provide insight into a library of apps that can be used to create graphics and videos in a matter of minutes. ACT/SAT Workshops

A workshop to assist students in Okaloosa County high schools who will take the Oct. 26 ACT and Nov. 2 SAT will be held from 2-5 p.m. Oct. 21-22 and Oct. 28-29 in the Media Center at Fort Walton Beach High School and also from 2-5 p.m. Oct.23-24 and 30-31 at Niceville High School. Camp Bluebird

Adults who have been diagnosed with cancer and those who are cancer survivors are encouraged to register now for an upcoming Sacred Heart Health System program that offers support, encouragement and renewal. All adult cancer patients are encouraged to participate, even if they are not seeing a Sacred Heart physician. Camp Bluebird, a retreat experience for people coping with cancer, is scheduled for Oct. 9–11 at Sacred Heart’s Miracle Camp, and registration for this camp is underway. Located on Beulah Road in Escambia County, the Miracle Camp complex is nestled in a 40-acre nature preserve and includes dorms, a dining hall, activities center and nature trails. Holiday Craft Show

The City of Destin’s 13th Annual Holiday Craft Show will be held at the Destin Community Center from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.Nov. 15 and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 16. There will be hand-crafted jewelry, wreaths, books, concessions, and much more from over 50 vendors. Vendor booths are available for $45/residents and $55/non-residents (+$10 for a corner booth).
