Light the Night at Village Baptist

Special to The Log

To celebrate the season, Village Baptist Church in Destin will host its 11th annual fall festival, Light the Night, from 6-7:30 p.m. Oct. 30. All are invited to join in this family friendly event that offers activities for all ages.

Each year, Village organizes a Trunk-or-Treat event for costumed children to walk from car to car asking for candy, which they are cheerfully given. Contests for Best Costume and Best Decorated Trunk are evaluated by the festival judges and prizes are awarded.

A hayride, bounce house, inflatable slide, cakewalk, and carnival games are set up around the campus along with contemporary Christian music playing in the background. In addition to candy, fun and games, Village offers bottled water and sodas, cotton candy, hotdogs, and popcorn. All food, fun, and fellowship are free.

To enter your car into the Trunk-or-Treat event and Best Decorated Trunk Contest, you must be 18 years or older and registered with Village Baptist Church. The Best Costume Contest prizes are judged in the following categories: Preschool, Grades K-5, Grades 6-12, and 18-Up. Costumes are not required to Trunk-or-Treat. Costumes and decorated trunks must be respectable and non-violent for all ages. For more information or to register your car in the Trunk-or-Treat event, call 837-8107 or email

Village Baptist Church does not seek to provide kids with an alternative to Halloween to keep them busy or from feeling left out. They seek to set an example for all children that as Christians, we are different, we are not of this world, and that being different is okay.

“For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”— Ephesians 6:12 King James Version
