Special to The Log

When Village Baptist Church started the Mother’s Day Out program 10 years ago, our goal was to help families find a safe, clean, and loving environment to bring their children — a place where they would know how much they are loved and where exciting opportunities for growth and learning would be provided. We prayed for God to send us the teachers and the children that we needed to get started. We have been blessed with awesome facilities and dedicated teachers. We also realized what an impact the preschool would have on the growth of the church and the lives of the children and their families in the surrounding communities.

Children who participate in high quality, early childhood education programs develop better language skills, score higher on school-readiness tests, have better social skills, and fewer behavioral problems once they enter school. They are also better prepared for Kindergarten, especially in the areas of pre-reading, pre-math, and social skills. The Village Preschool also adds to all of this a most important element … we share the love of Jesus with the children through Bible stories, songs, prayer, and most of all, loving one another.

Praise and worship is the highlight of our week as we all gather together to learn new songs and get our weekly inspiration from our puppet friends and stories from the Bible.

The Village Preschool offers the Mother’s Day Out program for one- two- and three-year old children from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays. If you live in the state of Florida, and your child turns four years of age by Sept 1, your child is eligible to participate in Florida’s free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten program.  Our VPK program is offered during the school year from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday.

This year we are also celebrating the 10 year anniversary of three of our teachers. Maija Campbell is the director of the program and a full time VPK teacher. Maija has been on our staff since the opening of the preschool in 2004 and has been instrumental in the growth and development of The Village Preschool.

Olivia Hammonds has served in all areas of the preschool and has taught children of all ages. She is extremely gifted in working with children and she is meticulous in making sure that the preschool is neat, orderly and beautiful.

Patty Divens has also been on staff since the beginning and God has called her to work with the one year olds.  Most of the children are introduced to The Village Preschool in Ms. Patty’s class and the parents love her.

Our mission is to honor and glorify God by providing quality Christian care and support for families by sharing our love for Christ with them and helping children begin their life long relationship with Jesus Christ.

Vicky Curtis is the preschool minister at Village Baptist Church.
