The Rev. Claire Ogle is on a mission from God.

After 15 years of leading Seders throughout the Emerald Coast, Ogle, executive director of Hosanna House in Destin, will host the Emerald Coast Regional Seder at the Emerald Coast Convention Center on Okaloosa Island.

“No one has ever done this before,” she said recently. “There have been citywide Seders but nothing on this scale. We’re trying to reach from Mobile (Ala.) to Jacksonville and beyond.

“I feel like God gave me this assignment. It’s a big one, but it’s exciting.”

The public is invited to celebrate the Seder on the eve of Passover, April 14, at 6 p.m. This special Seder dinner will be led by internationally known minister Paul Wilbur.

Wilbur is an award-winning Integrity Music recording artist and the founder of Wilbur Ministries. He is a Jew who believes in the saving grace of Jesus as Messiah.

Ogle explained that the Seder is a meal that tells the story of what happened at the first Passover during the Jews’ enslavement in Egypt.

“Each element — the horseradish, the parsley, the salt water — means something,” she said. “It’s an interactive experience. Paul will instruct participants what to do.”

Lamb is the traditional meat served at a Seder, but Ogle said chicken will be substituted for reasons of expense and taste.

“A lot of people don’t like lamb,” she said.

Also, the meal is not kosher, but Ogle wants the Jewish community to know they are especially welcome.

“We hope our Jewish friends will come,” she said.

About 300 tickets for the Seder, which cost $35 each, have already been sold.

“I’m hoping for 500,” Ogle said, “but we can go more than that if needed.”

Ogle said people from as far away as Texas, Louisiana and Mississippi are coming.

“This is a spiritual event that is designed to bring blessing to our region,” Ogle said.

This event will benefit the ministry of Hosanna House, a nonprofit 501c3 residential home for women without resources who have suffered overwhelming circumstances. Hosanna House is dedicated to bringing healing through a Christ centered atmosphere.
