Girls will make ‘Waves’ at local event

Special to The Log
From left, the Koloff sisters, with mother, Victoria, (center), Kolby Koloff, Teryn Chapin, Tawni Koloff and Kendra Koloff, will speak at the Waves Girls Event at DUMC.

RAVE Ministries and DUMC Youth will host the first girls’ conference this October, right here in Destin.

RAVE Ministries, a ministry for teenage girls, seeks to empower girls to live a life worth raving about for the Lord. DUMC Youth, the youth ministry of Destin United Methodist Church, encourages students to reach up to God, out to others, and in to each other. These two ministries have come together to create an opportunity for girls to grow deeper in their faith through a fun weekend of worship, beach parties and dynamic speakers.

RAVE Ministries and DUMC Youth desire to see girls of all ages make waves in our society. Beginning in October of 2013, Caroline Hare and Becca Daniel began to dream and rally others around them to plan an event that could create a movement for girls. After the vision was set in place, planning for the October 2014 event was put into full motion.

“Living at the beach we forget what a perfect place this is to have an event,” said Daniel, founder of RAVE Ministries. “Why not grab your friends, road trip to the beach, and enjoy some sun and Jesus?”

WAVES Event is a girls’ conference attracting ages 14-24, with girls signed up from Florida and Alabama and even Tennessee and Colorado.

There will be four sessions targeting each of the following areas, which are also spiritual analogies: breaking points, currents, high and low tides, and making waves. The event is intended to focus on bringing girls together, encouraging them in their faith, and sending them home with momentum to make waves in their communities.

The event will take place on Friday, Oct. 24, through Saturday night, Oct. 25, at the Destin Life Center, 200 Beach Drive. For more information, detailed schedule, and registration go to www.wavesevent.org.

Hare, youth and young adult minister at DUMC Youth, said, “Our hope in this weekend is to strike a chord, reminding the girls that we all have waves in our lives and are never alone, just like our theme verse in Isaiah 43:2 states.”

The weekend has a lineup that you will not want to miss. Leading worship is the Ben Nelson Band from Birmingham, Ala. Speakers include Jaime Jamgochain, founder of “Modest is Hottest” and well known contemporary Christian artist, and Victoria, Teryn, and Kolby Koloff, seen on the Lifetime Television show “Preachers Daughters” and the hit teen youtube devotional “The New Different.”
