Clergy Appreciation Day
Clergy Appreciation Day, observed on the second Sunday in October (Oct. 9), is a time to recognize the work of ministers, pastors, and priests in the United States. This national day also falls in National Clergy Month, which is observed annually each October.
Clergy Appreciation Day was originally called Clergy Appreciation National Day of Honor, and was started by Hallmark Cards in 1992. Many people also refer to the day as Pastor Appreciation
High Holy Days
Services scheduled at Temple Beth Shalom in Fort Walton Beach for the High Holy Days are: Kol Nidre, Oct. 11 at 8 p.m.; Yom Kippur Day, Oct. 12 Children’s Service at 9 a.m., Shaharit at 10 a.m., Minchah at 3:15 p.m., Yizkor (memorial) at 4:20 p.m., Ne’ilah (concluding) at 5:15 p.m.; Sukkot, Oct. 21 at 6:30 p.m.; Simchat Torah, Nov. 4 at 6:30 p.m. Call 862-6086 for more information.
Fort Walton Beach Aglow will meet at 10 a.m. Oct. 13 at Marina Bay Resort, 80 Miracle Strip Parkway in Fort Walton Beach. The speaker will be Janet German, who has a special anointing, uniqueness and flair to draw people into their full potential, and to a place of total prosperity for spirit, soul, and body.
Waves Girls Conference
Geared to ages 14-24, The Waves Girls Conference Oct. 14 and 15 Destin Life Center desires to see girls not only know Christ but also make waves for Him in their communities, schools, homes, and nation.
During the weekend they will cover Breaking Points in our faith, Currents that we get swept up in, and making waves for Christ in our community, home, and world. There is a free youth leader lunch on Saturday, as well as a free dessert after party for everyone on Saturday night.
Thanks to Thrivent Financial the first 150 girls get in for free. After that, tickets will be $30. Registration is now open at www.wavesgirlsconference.com.
Navarre First Assembly of God will hold a golf tournament with 8 a.m. shotgun start Oct. 14 at Hidden Creek Golf Course in Navarre. Lunch provided after the tournament. Call 939-333.
The tournament is to benefit the church's Missions Team going to Belgium. There, they will help a church with the construction of their new sanctuary and also spread the Gospel message in the community of Colfontaine, where less than 2 percent of the population profess the Christian faith.
Vendors needed for fair
St. Simon’s on the Sound Episcopal Church will hold its 42nd Annual Arts & Craft Fair Nov. 4 and 5. There are booths available for those artists and crafters who would like to participate. For application and information go to www.stsimons-fwb.org.
Proceeds from the Fair help to support many community services including Mental Health Association, Children in Crisis, Shelter House, Okaloosa AIDS Support & Informational Services, Sharing & Caring to name a few.
The Anchor Church, 101 First St SE in Fort Walton Beach, has a food pantry serv-ing the public from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesdays. People 18 and over are allowed one visit per month. A valid ID is re-quired.
Building 9 Worship
Village Baptist Church in Destin has Saturday night services in Building 9 — The Hang Out. The service will be called “Building 9 Worship @6:09. Community is wel-come, especially those who must work on Sundays.
A live weekly call in radio show, Life Issues Real Answers, with Dee Chernicky and Valerie Peterson, airs from 11-11:30 a.m. Fridays on WPSM 91.1 FM at The Plaza, 4507 Furling Lane, Suite 206 in Destin.
A 7:14 Initiative Prayer Gathering will be held at 7 a.m. Sundays at Grace-Gateway City Church in Mariner Plaza, 218 Eglin Parkway NE in Fort Walton Beach. Everyone is welcome. At 7 a.m., meet and greet with coffee and pastries. At 7:14, pray to heal our land. From 7:45-8:30 a.m., discussion on what each of us can do toward healing. Call 243-1763 for more information.
Youth at Immanuel Anglican provides a God-saturated, safe environment where youth can feel relaxed in worship and fellowship geared just for them. The focus is to develop disciples who will become disciple makers pursuing Jesus’ commission and to be His hands and feet.
