Mission team prepares to leave for India

Children line up to get water in India. SPECIAL TO THE LOG

Jesus said, “If anyone gives even a cup of cold water to one of these little ones …he will certainly not lose his reward." (Matthew 10:42)

From Dec. 29 through Jan. 18, Muriel Brown, Savannah Whitten, Erica Follen, Cole Huffer and I will travel to India to take people the good news of Christ, to conduct humanitarian work and to produce a documentary on the need for water wells in India. This mission trip will be sponsored by the Destin Church of Christ, which has graciously already provided the funds for seven water wells and 150 goats for destitute widows in India.

We will work alongside Dr. Paul Renganathan, director of World Bible School and recipient of the Mother Teresa Lifetime Achievement Award, who has dedicated his life to helping the people of India. Renganathan currently oversees three Christian schools with 3,600 students; 12 orphanages; World Bible School, which has trained more than 1,400 preachers now serving in 15 countries in South Asia; and the Faith Hospital in Chennai, which cares for 70-100 people per day. We will also provide wheelchairs, Bibles and medical equipment donated by the Hope Medical Clinic. Two years ago, the Destin Church of Christ conducted a similar mission trip and 391 people were baptized into Christ.

Our team is now in the process of fundraising for this mission effort. If you would like to help, you can send a donation to Destin Church of Christ, 150 Beach Drive, Destin, Florida 32541. Please note the donation is for the India Mission Trip. Also, you can donate through Erica Follen’s GoFund Me page, gofundme.com/uu-india-mission.

A free come and go community fundraising event for this mission effort will be held from 4 to 9 p.m. Dec. 17 at 30A Songwriter Radio's Music and Coffee Shop, 2078 US Hwy. 98 W, Suite 108, in Santa Rosa Beach (Publix Shopping Plaza). A donation jar will be available.

Musician/songwriter Dr. Cheryl Jones from Jones and Company will kick off the fundraiser, followed by music from The Lagoons and other local musicians.
